HADRIAN

AE Sestertius (24.46 gm)
Rome, 134-138 A.D.

Bust of Hadrian r. / Hadrian extending his hand to Judaea. RIC 890c.

This sestertius commemorates the arrival of Hadrian at the province of Judaea, as one of the issues of his "Travel Series." It is notable that the personification of the province wears Greek dress and is sacrificing over a Graeco-Roman altar. Judaea here, in contrast to her depiction in Vespasian's "Judaea Capta" series, is stripped of ethnicity.

Extremely Rare and with full reverse legend boldly struck on the flan.
