Bare head of Octavian, r. / Laureate head of Caesar r. Cr. 535/1.

The grand-nephew of Julius Caesar, Octavian at age nineteen, was adopted as his son in Caesar's will. Two years later, Caesar was deified by the Senate. On this coin Octavian portrayed his father as a god and himself as the son of a god in order to assert his authority within the Triumvirate.
